My Shop in A Box

What can we do with 30 US dollars a month in China, one of fastest growing economies in the world? Renting a small shop in a major shopping center in a prime location? Uh…...Actually we are not daydreaming. 疯果 (Fengguo ,“Crazy Nuts” in English) in Beijing offers an empty box of 0.07 m² (usually 46cm*46cm*34cm) with a monthly rent of 30 dollars, where people can showcase and sell their uniquely designed works and start their entrepreneurship.

Fengguo is where creative design meets business. It is one of the coolest and most popular “idea” shops in Beijing.  Their shops are located in prime locations with high traffic flows of young customers.  They have a simple design with boxes and shelves open for rent.  Moreover, they provide services ranging from inventory management, payment, customer services to marketing, and all of these are charged on a commission based on actual sales, in addition to monthly rent as low as 30 dollars.

No matter if you are professional designers, or arts and design school students, or just someone with brilliant ideas, you can all present your works here. The only condition is your works must be original and not bulk-produced.  In the shops, you can find a diverse range of stuff, from pins and bus pass stickers, to cushions, eco-bags, and clothing. All are fun, creative and unique.
With a fast growing economy in China, the young generation is keen on entrepreneurship as a career choice. Also as customers, they favor products with unique design and features which stand out from the mass-production crowd.

A single shop filled with ideas from 50+ individual creative young designers? Fengguo is a great platform for independent designers to showcase their works and launch their entrepreneurship dreams. It is also an innovative place for the young crowd to find original and uniquely designed products, and at the same time, appreciate arts and design.  Yes, a new generation with design as a lifestyle.
